Thorough Examination

Under UK law, every forklift truck must have a valid Thorough Examination certificate.

A thorough examination is very similar to an MOT inspection on a car. This inspection is not part of a maintenance regime and is required at least every 12 months depending on the nature of use and the environment in which it is being used. Barlow Handling can help you understand your requirements under LOLER and PUWER regulations.

The term "Thorough Examination" is widely used within the forklift truck industry but not all of these examinations are necessarily the same standard as each other.

The CFTS scheme was created in consultation with the HSE by two national organisations (BITA & FLTA). The aim of the scheme is "to give clear, definitive procedures and consistent, high national standards for a safe and genuine Thorough Examination"

CFTS does not just concentrate on the lifting mechanisms but also includes the truck operating systems such as brakes and steering.

For more information on CFTS go to - http://www.thoroughexamination.org

Barlow Handling Limited is accredited with CFTS to carry out Thorough Examinations and is allowed to use the distinctive 'Thorough Examination' mark on literature, certification and reports.

CFTS mark: it's your guarantee that a Thorough Examination complies with current law, and will be carried out by a fully trained engineer in accordance with strict quality procedures
